Database Daemon Fatal Error

A

Alex Hammerstein

Hi I am using 2008 Entourage fully patched. I have started getting the
above error message 5 or 6 times a day.

Has anyone any ideas what is happening?

Thanks

Alex

This error probably means database corruption. I would recommend rebuilding
the database.

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

How to rebuild:

I just logged on to check in on this!
We are getting the same error all of the sudden.
And it's funny.. (not ha ha), but those who are seeing this error are the
ones that just updated to 12.1.9.

I tried rebuilding the database but that did NOT work.

Thoughts?

First try this easy fix.

1) Quit Entourage.
2) Move the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop
3) Open Entourage and it will create a new Microsoft User Data folder with
an empty Main Identity
4) Drag from the MUD folder on the desktop, your Main Identity replacing the
current blank Identity.

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main Identity

If the problems go away there are some other files in the old MUD you might
want to bring over.

If it doesn't work, let's test in a new User.

1) Drag your Main Identity to the Shared folder

"/Users/Shared"

2) Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
3) In the new User, open Entourage and let it create a Microsoft User Data
folder.
4) Drag from Shared (it actually copies) you Identity and replace the blank
Main Identity
5) Open Entourage

Does the problem go away? If yes, then your Office install is OK and the
problem is in your User's folder. Test Entourage in a new Identity. This
would eliminate your database as the problem.

If the problem still exists, you will need to use "Remove Office" and
re-install then update. However, back in your regular user, one last test
first.

1) Log into your regular User
2) Drag back from Shared your Main Identity and place it in the this
location: ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main
Identity
3) Open Word, check using the Address book to address an envelope then open
the Scrapbook and Project Center in the Toolbox. Do you get any errors when
trying to open them. If yes, then you are missing components and this
verifies you need to do a re-install of Office. If you have problems
accessing the Entourage Address Book then this indicates problems with your
database.

Steps to re-install Office

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/reinstall_steps.html>

"Remove Office" in Office 2008 does not remove everything. It does not
remove the following:

/Library/Receipts/office2008....<-----It's important to remove this one so
the updater won't think you are already updated.
/Library/Fonts/Microsoft folder with fonts
/Library/Automator workflows
/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Folder (contains MERP,MAU)
/Library/Spotlight/mdimporter

~/Library it does not remove any Microsoft .plist files or the Microsoft
folder in the Library folder containing files and prefs.

Let me know what you find in your testing.
