Database now too large after rebuild

A colleague using Ent X (with the various service upgrades and patches) on a
TiPB has run into a problem with his database. It was up over 3GB and he
decided to carry out a standard rebuild. The rebuild finished but then
Entourage gave him an error message that the database was too large to be
opened and to rebuild it. He ran advanced rebuild and it stopped midway
through, again saying that the database was too large. He has moved those
database files and relaunched Entourage in the hopes that he could switch
identities and open the old database files but it hasn¹t worked. He still
receives messages that his databases are too large.

Any clue while a database that was 1GB below the limit would now be too
large following a rebuild?

TIA,

Chris

It sounds like a failed rebuild. Look in the Identities folder and see if
there is an "Old Database" file. You can remove "old" and try the rebuild
again. I would make a copy first though. Make sure you have enough hard disk
space available for twice that amount. As part of the rebuilding process,
Entourage creates a second database file. It needs to be contiguous space.

After a rebuild and you are satisfied with the results you can trash these
files:

"Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"
