Database rebuild failed. (HELP)

I am having a serious issue with trying to rebuild a database. The database
file is 11GB. I have tried rebuilding on 2 separate machines, one intel, one
powerPC, with the same issue. It stops when building the new db file. It
gets about 3-4gb in before it errors out. What are the next steps? Are
there any or is this a one time shot to get our data back?
I am using Entourage 2008. It was purchased as an upgrade to 2004. I am
running it on OSX 10.4.11

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

Databases this large could take a much large drive than you have used. I
have seen reports of success when moving to a 500GB or larger drive.

Must of that 11GB could be old deleted data. My suggestion is to manually
move over your data into 2008. Follow the instructions here. All of the
users that have used this method have resulted in stable 2008 Identities.

How to manually move your data from one version to another:

Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Diane,
I have tried this on a larger drive, with over 160GB free space to no avail.
It appears that there are multiple people having this issue. I was reading
in a post today where you mentioned that the sync feature to Ical is having
issues. Would this be a direct cause for the Database? Many people who have
Iphones are using the syncing feature in Entourage to sync their calendar
Ical because the Iphone does not sync directly to Entourage.

I also read in another post that you are working with a developer to track
down the problem rebuilding the db. I am available for any assistance you
may need or for any testing. Thank you for your help with this, as you can
imagine, it is frustrating to not have any options for a failed rebuild.

I have tried this on a larger drive, with over 160GB free space to no avail.

This is what one user found:

User's database hit the Entourage X 2GB limit and was "corrupted".

* Entourage vX on the user's machine refused to rebuild it.

* Entourage 2004 on the user's machine said it was corrupt and refused to
import it.

* Entourage 2004 on an Intel iMac said it was corrupt and refused to import
it.

What worked:

Copy the user's database to a Mac G4 booted from a very large HD (500GB)

Place the bad identity into the Microsoft User Data folder --> Office X
Identities folder

Open Entourage X and rebuild

Rebuild was successful

You MUST turn off Sync Services until it's fixed if you continue with
Entourage 2008. You might consider going back to Office 2004 if this is not
fixed in the march 11 update. No one outside of the developers knows what
will be included in the update.

Most likely Sync Services will only make duplicates, triplicates etc. but
not cause database corruption. However, it's uncertain so it could be
possible.

They need a database small enough to upload. Yours would take multiple DVDs
and would have to be mailed.

I suggest going the manual route. Get your data in manually and do not turn
on Sync Services.
