database rebuild resurrects deleted items

Something weird I've noticed with Entourage 2004 (never happened with X)...
seen it on pretty much every Mac I've worked on, so it's not linked to a
single station or operating system. When doing a database rebuild to
compress the size of the database, inevitably upon relaunch I find a handful
of items that had been *definitely* deleted are back. Sometimes it's a
"recovered draft" of a message, sometimes it's an old message I had deleted
a week or so ago. I would say such messages *always* show up as unread but
can't say that with conviction... seems like they always show up as unread,
but that does make them "pop" so it's possible I'm also getting resurrected
messages with status=read.

Anyone else run into this? Naturally, I'm running with all the latest Office
2004 updates (AutoUpdate finds no new updates).

Yes. I've noticed it, too. Tasks come back to life as well. Still, at
least it's not the other way round!

If you're just trying to reduce the size of the database (and why bother?
It's much better just to let new mail fill up the empty bits of the
database after you delete items) you should NOT be doing a Rebuild (formerly
known as "Advanced Rebuild"). That's just for those rare times when you have
to fix corruption. Do a Compact (formerly known as "Typical" [dumb word]
Rebuild). That's what it's for - to compact your database.
