database size jumps to 30gb+ in short time

Hello -

Does anyone know why/had similar experience with entourage's database
jumping in size by an order of magnitude in the span of a day?

Situation is this:
I've got two machines running entourage 2008. One on leopard 10.5.2
and one on tiger 10.4.11.

Last night, the tiger machine's hard drive filled. Earlier in the
day, I had 13gb free. Nothing I did (consciously) would have consumed
even 1/4GB -- but towards end of day, I received an alert that my hard
drive was full.

After checking file sizes, it turned out that my entourage database
was almost 40GB!

Normally it's between 3 and 4gb.

After compacting, it's back to normal.

Today, I check the leopard machine's database size, and it's more than
30GB.

Any idea what might be doing this?

Thanks,
Alan

Do you have any sync going on between the two computers? Seems there was one
case of this earlier this year, but don't have any notes on what caused it.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

Thanks for the reply. The computers do not sync to one another. Nor
are they connected in any other way -- except they both access the
same exchange server.

however, no other machines have had this problem.

on the tiger machine, compacting the database reduced the size back to
normal.
on the leopard machine, compacting generated an unspecified error.
rebuilding the database reduced the size back to normal.

given that i have no clue how the problem arose in the first place,
i'm worried about it recurring.

the only change i made to either machine in the recent past (month or
two) was to install syncing software (blackberry's free sync software
on the leopard machine, gsync by macness for google calendar on the
tiger machine). but given that they're different software solutions,
i think the problem is probably with entourage 2008 and not the sync
software.

however, as mentioned above, i have no clue as to what's going on.

thanks for any wisdom you might have.

regards,
alan
