Dates reset on my messages!

I have e-mail messages going back several years filed away in folders in
Entourage. Recently while I was turning changing the new "Grouping" feature
under the view menu I found that many of my e-mails dates had been reset to
this last Monday! This did not happen universally across all folders
strangely enough but it did get most of my messages.

What could have caused this and is there any way to restore the original
received dates? This is a major bug as I need to know when I received each
e-mail!

Update on my original post:

Luckily I had recently rebuilt my database and still had the backup up
identity folder. I was able to restore this and get my messages back with
dates intact while only losing a few recent e-mails.

I don't remember the issue appearing right after the database rebuild. It
seemed to happen suddenly when I changed the "Grouped" settings under the
view menu.
