How can I change the date format 01/01/08 to 010108

I ALSO NEED TO CHANGE THE FORMAT INTO A TEXT CELL. WHEN I TRY TO DO THIS IT GIVES ME A NUMBER THAT EXCEL RECOGINZES AS A SUM NUMBER (I THINK)
