Daylight Saving Time bug?

S

Steve Nelson

I have a birthday entry on my Entourage calendar for Sunday April 3rd 2005.
It's a recurring, once a year event (obviously). I think there's a bug with
the way Entourage is handling this since this is the day that Daylight
Savings begins. This event shows up on both Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday
April 3rd. If I change if from an all day event (and give it a specified
time range), it only shows up on the 3rd.

I double checked how I've got my timezone specified, etc., and haven't seen
any problems with any other entries. Is this a known problem or am I just
lucky?

An hour is thrown away, so if an all-day event is interpreted as
covering the 24 hours preceding midnight of the 3rd/4th, then Entourage,
though perhaps a bit overly punctilious, is right: one of those hours
will occur during the 2nd. The problem could be, therefore, that the
notion of "all day" is subject to interpretation. As you rightly say,
specifying a definite time period solves it, because that's unambiguous.
Not quite as good as the plot point of The Pirates of Penzance, however.

I have seen this particular bug already. It applies only to the days that
Daylight Savings Time starts (and ends). Let us know if it fixes itself when
the time changes.
