Default active panes in Entourage 2004

Good afternoon

In the previous version of Entourage, when the address book window was
opened the search contacts pane (or box) would be active. In the new
version, the Views pane is active, requiring an extra tab to make a
search. This is a huge nuisance as I'm constantly required to first tab
and then type in my search. (It's the same for mail, I believe: the
Inbox used to be the default active pane, now it's the Folders.) I have
no clue why this was changed; it is far more inefficient.

Is there a way to make the contact search the active pane when the
address book window is opened, like in the old versions?

No. You really consider this a "huge nuisance"? What would qualify as a
"minor nuisance"?

The previous version of Entourage did not have custom views in the left
pane, nor a left pane at all. That's why it's changed" it's the Address Book
itself - or a custom view - which is now the primary selection, and has to
be.

Yes it did. Both Entourage X and Entourage 2004 have that on the left side.

I've noticed this as well and I have to say that the old behavior was
preferable for my tastes. The idea was that you could just click on the
Address Book button and begin typing what you're looking for right away to
find your record. Now you need an extra Tab before doing that.

Yes, you are quite right. I do not understand why the behavior was
changed. I'm a keyboard person (I don't lke mousing around) and when I
command + 2 and then type the first letters of my search the tab often
no longer jumps to search (it depends on the configuration in Views),
forcing me to look for the mouse to click in the search box. As I noted
before, this happens five or six times a day. It's as if Apple one day
decided that command + p should now be paste and not print. I looked up
nuisance on the web -- one of the definitions is: "An act which causes
material inconvenience, discomfort or harm and is persistent or likely
to re-occur." OK, there's no harm done, but this is the definition of
NUISANCE. Are you listening, Seattle???
