Default Folder X Conflict

After downloading the latest version of Default Folder X (v 4.0.2) Entourage 2008 crashed when adding attachments to a message. Default Folder X is a faster way to navigate through all your folders. Upon disabling Default Folder X by adding Entourage as an excluded application, all was well. Hopefully StClair Software will fix this issue in their next release.

I'm a big user of Default Folder and I have no problems. I would test in a
new User to see if the problem exists there.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

It was by switching users and finding no problem there and then booting in Safe mode and finding no problem that I isolated Default Folder X as the problem. St.Clair Software suggested I trash the Default Folder X plist. I did that and after I turned on Default Folder X again, the same problem recurred. Diane do you think there is a Microsoft plist that I should trash?

Thanks,

Jay

Doubtful. Let's find where the problem is located. First test your database
for corruption.

1. create a new Identity under Entourage in the Menu bar.

2. test Default Folder in this new Identity

3. If it works, then rebuild your main Identity

4. If it does not work then the problem is most likely in your User's
folder.

5. To eliminate your User's folder, Go to System Preferences --> Create a
New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast
User Switching. Test Office there.

6. If it works in the new User, then it IS in your User's folder and is a
preference. Use this link for testing:

Troubleshooting Your User Account for a Problem

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/test_user.html>

7. If the problem existed in a new User #5, then it is system wide. We'll
discuss those options if that is the problem.

I'm with Diane here: I use Default Folder X, Mac OS X 10.5.2. No
problems. Hm. I have v4.0.1; I will download 4.0.2 and see if I find a
problem with that verison.

Allan and Diane. So far, I've determined that it is not an identity problem and is IS a user folder problem. It is something in the com.applexxxxxxx I think but I haven't narrowed it down yet. Entourage crashed after putting back the first half of the com.applexzxxplist items and also replacing the second half. Puzzling. For now I have Default Folder X excluding Entourage.

Allan and Diane. I sent a crash report to St. Clair Software and got a reply today. They found something to fix and made a new build, 4.0.3d6. After I loaded it, the conflict went away. Thank you for your interest in this issue.

Thanks for the feedback. Default Folder is such a handy application that I
am lost without it. Isn't it nice to see direct results when you contact a
company with a problem?
