Delay in Opening Attachments in Outlook 2003

I am new to the Outlook/Exchange environment and am having a problem with
slow attachment opening. When I double-click on the attachment, Outlook
freezes for about a minute to open the document. The Task Manager shows
Outlook and the program that the attachement is in as "Not Responding" during
the delay.
My config:
Outlook 2003 SP1
Office 2000 SR-1
Exchange 2003
Windows 2000 SP4
McAfee virus scan

I have already tried the following:
-http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2004/up040722.htm#slow
-Check the Add-in Manager for third-party anti-virus
