Delete all/Delete this one

Steve Ball

I sometimes find that, for one reason or another, I'll be missing one
occurrence of a recurring event. If I try to delete that occurrence
Entourage comes up with 'Delete all' as the default.

It seems to me that wanting to delete just one occurrence of a recurring
event would be far more common than wanting to delete them all. Can I change
the default?

Can you send me a screenshot? You should be seeing both options.

He sees both. He just wants "Delete This One" to be the default rather
than "Delete All".

Correct. It seems that, usually, the default is the action which does the
least damage if you accidentally hit 'Return'. On top of that, it seems that
"Delete this one" will logically be the more popular choice.

Of course, I could be missing something; it's happened before.

If it matters, I'm in complete agreement with Steve. In keeping with
Mac human interface guidelines, Entourage should make the option that
does the least damage the default.

[Lots of snipping above to avoid quoting more than I need.]

I'm torn on this one but leaning to agree with both of you. The event is
created as a single item with multiple recurrences rather than multiple
events with individual times. I can see why Microsoft would set the
default as "Delete All". But then again, their wording in this dialog
leads the user to think that these are indeed multiple items.

Changing the default behavior is not possible but this is a good
suggestion. I recommend sending Microsoft feedback about this ASAP using
the Help --> Send Feedback tool. Although Office 2008 is now in beta I
would imagine that it's not too difficult (hopefully not too late) to
change the default behavior of an existing feature.
