Delete mail without first putting in trash?

I'm cleaning up my email and finding it annoying to move thousands of
emails to the trash only to have to then delete them once they're
there. Is there a way, perhaps via a script, to delete messages
without having to first put them in the trash?

Use the Nuke Messages script.

All you do is to hold SHIFT after you select the ones and they will not go
to TRASH
