Is it possible to delete old calendar years, en masse, with a script? I've
got many, many repetitions of old events that keep multiplying. My PDA
won't sync anymore, and I suspect it is just clogged up with all these
duplicated events.
Since you have Entourage 2004, there's a built-in "All Events" custom view
in the Calendar area's left column under Calendar Views. Go there.
It's usually sorted already by date (or do so by clicking on the Date
column). Recurring events are listed just once here - on their original
dates. Therefore birthdays tend to be among the oldest events - you probably
don't want to delete those. But probably the quickest thing is to select the
earliest non-birthday, scroll down to the oldest non-birthday you want to
get rid of (maybe Jan 1 2004, or Sept 1 2004, or Jab 1 2005, or whenever),
press Shift key, and click that event (or the one before it). That will
select all in between. Then, holding down Command (Apple) key, on e by one
click each event (birthdays, etc.) within that selected list that you wish
to keep, to _de-select_ just those. Now all the selected items are the ones
you wish to delete, to click or press Delete. Done.
Now do much the same in the Tasks list. (Make sure you have View/ALL Tasks,
not just Incomplete. Or maybe View Complete Tasks only, select and delete
them all.) It's easier, because recurring tasks slough off completed
occurrences as individual completed tasks - you can delete them all. Any
remaining recurring tasks are Incomplete and alive by definition.
