Delete only future occurrences of a repeating event

If I have a recurring event set on my calendar, how do I delete only future
occurrences of the event, but leave all past occurrences in tact? If I open
up just the "current item", it only deletes the current item. If I open
"the entire series", it deletes the entire series--past and future.

I know that I've done this before, but I can't seem to do it now.

Open the series and adjust the 'ends by' date in the 'recurrences' section
to the current date. All future events will disappear.
