Deleted Emails Disappearing

Since updating Entourage 2004 earlier this week, I've had a bit of a
disconcerting problem.

When I delete emails from my Inbox, they're simply disappearing.
Typically, of course, they go into the Deleted folder. However, it
appears as if DELETE is now removing the email completely without
putting it into the Deleted folder.

While my intention is ultimately to delete these emails, this new
behavior is a bit of concern. A simple slip of the keyboard could
permanently delete an important email.

Any suggestions?

Have you got a schedule set to empty the deleted items folder on quitting
entourage?

That's a good thought! But I have the delete schedule set only for
'delete items on quit'

I'm really at a loss for this one. I've got to believe it's a bug in
the updated Entourage. I've done lots of things to make sure there are
no extraeous issues (fixed permissions, run daily/weekly cleaning) but
I haven't discovered any root cause. I've also turned off rules
thinking there might be a bug... but it's still deleting emails
immediately without placing them first in the delete folder.

If it is a bug, you seem to be the only one with it!

What sort of account is it? POP, IMAP, Exchange etc? Could it be an ISP
setting?

If its an IMAP account, what delete model are you using? (in the account
settings, check under the 'advanced' tab). If you are using 'mark for
deletion' and 'purge when leaving folder', then the behaviour you describe
would result.

Do you have more than one Deleted Items folder?

For a couple of my clients I had to re-set where the deleted mail went
after the 11.2.3 update. Entourage decided to put them in the
"Folders On My Computer" Deleted Items rather than in the Exchange
folder where they had been going.

It's worth a look.

Peggy,

Your post got me to thinking that the update might have changed some
settings -- and therein lied the cause of the problem. Remarkably
Simple!

Apparently, when updating Entourage it changed the setting for viewing
emails: unbeknownst to me, Entourage reset theView -> Unread Only
setting. Thus, all of the Deleted emails that I had reviewed and
deleted were invisible in the Deleted Folder.

Silly problem, but at least it's been resolved. Thanks to all who
offered advice,
