Deleted Items folder: counting errors

It seems that even in Office 2004 (it already occurred in Office X) the app
loses count of the items in the "Deleted Items" folder. For instance, there
are now 6 items in this folder and it reads Deleted Items (2). Is it a bug,
or is there something else going on?

The number next to the folder is not the total numbers of items in the
folder, it's the number of unread items.
