Are you trying to delete the folder or the contents? You cannot delete the
folder.

You can also try selecting messages in smaller groups to delete if the above
does not help.

I suggest you set up a schedule to delete mail. It's not meant to be a
storage folder.

i am trying to delete the contents... in the future i will select smallers group to delete..but as for right now, even scheduling to delete mail crashes the system... i never intended it to be a sotrage folder but accidently earased way too many old emails at once - close to 10,000 emails... is there any other way to throw the contents out? much appreciated!

Select 1000 messages or so at a time by shift-clicking the top message and
one about 1000 below it - the bottom frame of the main window will tell you
how many are selected. Don't worry about being precise. then click or press
Delete. You'll get a progress bar and won't be able to do anything else in
the window. When done, repeat with the next 1000 or so, and so on until
done.

Deleting messages from the Deleted Items folder purges the messages from the
database, just like "Empty" does, but just the messages you select.

paul, thanks for the response back.. however, i can not do what you are suggesting because i can not enter or access my deleted folder at all... in the future i will do what you are suggesting w/ my other messages. But for this problem, my objective is to throw out the contents of my "deleted items" folder- the folder ,however, is so full w/ messages that if i try and select it .. to highlight or emply any of them... the computer freezes. please offer another solution if you know of any. thanks again, jvr

Turn the Preview Pane off (View menu) before selecting any messages.

Have you tried to "Rebuild the database" yet?

Hold down the option key while starting up Entourage. You will be asked
what kind of rebuild to do.

Go with typical. After it finished rebuilding, see if you can access
the folder in question.

Remember, once you rebuild the database, you will have 2 "old" files
that you should then delete, in the following directory.

~/Documents/Microsodt User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/

Good luck.
