Deleted Items Folder will not empty from Tools command

When I click on Tools>Run schedule>empty deleted items folder, nothing
happens, no dialogue box, nothing. I am running Entourage 2004, the
schedule is set to "manually", I have re-built the data base several
times but nothing helps. The schedule for emptying the Junk mail box
is fine, it's set to 0 days, and when I hit the "empty deleted items"
command, the dialogue box comes up and says"will now empty junk mail".
I have re-installed Entourage, trashed the prefs, repaired permissions
etc etc, nothing seems to do the trick.

Are your messages perhaps on an IMAP account, such that they have their own
Deleted Items folder within the IMAP account/server listing rather than the
local Deleted Items folder "On My Computer"? The "Empty Deleted Items"
schedule refers only to the local one. To empty an IMAP Deleted Items
folder, control-click (right-click) on its icon and select the 'Empty
Deleted Items' menu item you see there.

I have several POP accounts, and no IMAP ones. The Empty Deleted Items
has always worked just fine until a few days ago. I have not added any
new mail accounts. I'm not sure if it was coincidental with my
installing the 10.3.8 update. This problem is more a nuisance than
something vital to my use of Entourage 2004, however it annoys me that
everything is not functioning perfectly.
Is there, perhaps, a script somewhere that I could use to perform the
"empty" function?

Does anyone else have any ideas? This is frustrating and I had hoped
for some help from this group.

I would advise trying a database rebuild. The deleted items folder is
referenced by id, and if Entourage can't find it that indicates you may have
some database corruption in there.

Hold down the option key when starting entourage until you see the rebuild
window, then follow the instructions.

As you can see by my original post, I have rebuilt the data base
several times, although checking it each time showed no problems, I
rebuilt it anyway. There has to be some other problem somewhere, I
have checked schedules etc etc, repaired permissions etc etc as you can
see from my previous posts. I have even re-installed Entourage but the
problem persists!
