deleted mail continues to appear in inbox-entourage mac 2008

hi there,

I've seen other posts for this but none of the fixes there are working
for me, or are even an option. I'm assuming it's because I'm using
entourage 2008, and the fixes are for earlier versions? for ex, one
fix was to control-click hte inbox and select "repair..." but that
doesn't even appear as an option for me

if anyone has any ideas, let em nkow. this is driving me crazy and
enough not to want to use entourage because I can't be sure what's
being deleted and what's not.

thanks.

This is awfully vague. Unless we know exactly what you have tried we will
not know what to suggest.

Mail going to the wrong folder is usually a Mailing List Manager rule that
was created by mistake and is moving the mail. Under Tools in the Menu bar,
select the Mailing List Manager, check all Mailing List Manager rules.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

Exactly what version of Entourage? The latest version of Entourage 2008 is
12.1.2.

Don't stop, immediately launch the AutoUpdate from Help and update.

This page will help with installing.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/install_office2008.html>

BTW, did you check the Mailing List Manager?

I updated. Could it be because I have several accounts, and I had to
turn on "allow online access" so that I can see each accounts mail
separately, and I'm leaving them on the server so that I can download
the mail to several computers? If that's the case, is there a way
that I can turn off "allow online access" AND still see my individual
accounts? I can't possible manage my mail if it's all mixed together
in the inbox, undifferentated.

thanks.

thanks. I will check out this install link. re: mailing list
manager. When I open it, there's nothing there. what should I be
checking for?

Any Mailing List Manager rule that is listed. Open each and see where mail
is being directed.

Rule Basics:

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Use the MLM for all lists. Use rules for the remainder. Try to use
categories instead of individual addresses when possible. When a new address
is added to a contact in the Address Book then it will automatically be
acted on by the rule if you use categories in your rules. See example:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule002.html>

1) POP Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the Inbox (On My
Computer), NOT when it arrives in any other folder. Once it's moved to
another folder it won't be seen by rules.

2) IMAP Rules are meant to act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in
the IMAP INBOX, not when moved to another IMAP folder.

3) Exchange Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the
Exchange Inbox.

Each type of account has it's own rules. Click on the correct tab to check
your rules. (Mail (POP), Mail (IMAP) Mal (Windows Live Hotmail) Mail
(Exchange), News, Outgoing)

See "Using Rules with Entourage" for help and examples:

Great! Updates are important and often fix the problems users are
experiencing.

This wouldn't move mail to the Inbox. It has to be some type of rule. You
indicated you had no Mailing List Manager rules. How many rules do you have?
You can test those by unchecking "Enable." You can do this in batches to try
eliminate the problem rule. If you are unable to troubleshoot your rules,
you can send us the criteria for all, or post a screen shot.

ImageShack - Image Hosting <http://imageshack.us/>

How To Post Screen Shots To Newsgroups

1. On your keyboard, press Command-Shift-4.
2. On your keyboard, press the space bar.
3. Click the window you want. A picture file will appear on the desktop.
4. Go to http://imageshack.us/.
5. Click Browse, then navigate to and select the picture file.
6. Click "host it!".
7. Paste the "Show image to friends" URL in a newsgroup message.

so that I can see each accounts mail
separately, and I'm leaving them on the server so that I can download
the mail to several computers? If that's the case, is there a way

Allow online access is not needed to keep mail on server so it can be
downloaded by other computers. Simply select "keep mail on server." Have you
considered using an IMAP account rather than a POP account? This makes it
easier to keep multiple computers synced.

The setting for online access and keep on server is under the Options tab in
the Accounts window. Tools --> Accounts.
