deleting blocks

I just recently got a new computer with XP on it. I downloaded my OFFCICE 97 ok. But now, in WORD, when I hi-light a block and hit the delete key, it doesn't delete. A message script on the bottom left of the screen says "Do you want to delte the block? Yes or No". and I have to hit the "Y" key to delete the hi-lighted area

Question: How do I get rid of that and go back to hilight -delete button to delete stuff

"Tools", "Options", click the "General" TAB and uncheck the two WordPerfect
options.

Tools > Options > General > uncheck both "WordPerfect" options.
