Deleting Contacts in Distribution Lists

If I delete a contact from my contact folder, they still
appear in their distribution list, even after I "update"
and save the distribution list. However, if I use the
advanced search feature, then delete the contact out of
THAT window, when I update my distribution list it detects
that they've been removed and gives me the option to keep
or remove them.

What's up with this???
