Deleting "Entourage" calendar in iCal deletes Entourage calendar too

I deleted a calendar in iCal called "Entourage," and it deleted my
Entourage calendar at the same time. Had I known that I could delete
my entire Entourage calendar from within iCal, I never would have done
it. Five years of calendar data are gone. Does anyone know how I can
get my Entourage calendar data back?

Sorry, but unless you have a backup of your Entourage database there is no
way. This comes from not understanding sync services. A hard lesson to learn
when you loose data. I agree, there should be some warning like "do you
really want to do this blah blah"

You (or someone with access to your copy of Entourage) turned on Sync
Services in Entourage and said you wanted Entourage and iCal to sync. Your
Mac's system created a calendar in iCal called Entourage with all of your
Entourage data. -- Change an event in that calendar in iCal, and you would
see the change reflected over in Entourage. Delete an event in that calendar
in iCal, and you would see the even deleted in Entourage. Delete that entire
calendar in iCal, and it deleted all of your calendar events in Entourage.
It sounds like this latter action is what happened to you.

As for a solution ... A couple of possibilities. Do you back-up your iCal
calendar to your iDisk using Backup? In this case you could turn off Sync
Services, restore your iCal data from the backup (it will have the old
Entourage calendar). Turn on Sync Services and and tell the services dialog
box that you want iCal to replace the items sync database.

Alternatively, do you have a back-up of our Entourage database anywhere? If
so, you can turn-off Sync Services and then restore from the backup
database. Then turn Sync Services back on and tell the services dialog box
that you want Entourage to replace the items in the sync services.

No warning notice? You have got to be kidding me? "Blah, blah, blah"?
Are consequences like this how Microsoft educates its customers about
sync services? Being brutalized by such "learning experiences" is what
caused me to switch to a Mac in the first place. More evidence that I
made the correct decision.

Thank you. That was helpful!

The blah, blah was to indicate that more info should be given. The problem
happened in Apple's iCal so why is that a Microsoft problem?

FWIW , I am NOT a Microsoft employee, but a volunteer. If you don't like
something Microsoft does, send Feedback. Look under Help in the Entourage
menu bar and it will automatically open your browser to the feedback page.
