Deleting messages in Outlook

When I try to delete some of the messages in my inbox I
get an error and am not allowed to delete it. The error
is "The message interface has returned unknown error. If
the problem persists, restart Outlook."

Of course if I restart it, nothing changes and I still
can't delete the messages.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem. I am running
Microsoft Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711).
