deleting messages

Hi, I have a new Imac, it has Entourage 11.0 on it. Most emails I can
delete or move into folders, some I cannot. When I hit delete it shows
a line going through the message but the message remains. I cannot
move it into a folder either. I have been in bad computer land for 2
years using webmail...I just want to have a clean inbox for once. Help?

This must be an IMAP account. IMAP can have two different ways of deleting
mail - 'mark for deletion' and 'move to deleted items folder'. You have
'mark for deletion' set. You can get rid of these messages by right or
control-clicking on the folder and selecting 'purge deleted items' from the
contextual menu.

You can also change the way messages are purged in the 'advanced' pane of
the account settings (Tools; Accounts, double-click on your account name to
edit the settings and select the 'advanced' pane). Here you can
automatically purge messages when you leave a folder or when you quit
entourage. Alternatively, you can switch to the other delete model - moving
the messages to a deleted items folder.

Your problem sounds like database corruption. To rebuild your database hold
down the Option key and re-launch the application. In a few seconds, you'll
be greeted with the new Entourage 2004 Database Utility.

Since you are new to Entourage, you might want to check out the Getting
Started section: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/get_started/index.html>

You also need to update Entourage to 11.2.1. It sounds like you do not have
the Microsoft AutoUpdate checked for auto updates. Under Help in the menu
bar select Check for Updates.

If you continue to have problems, see the Troubleshooting section:
