I need help with answers to the following that I cannot find with mactopia at all!

I have a MacBook OS X 10.5.6

When composing a letter or replying to an email, when typing if I make a mistake on a word I can't back up to delete just that letter or word without erasing everything I just typed. MacBook doesn't have an insert key like a regular laptop. Or if I need to delete a sentence going forward if I hit the delete button it backs up and delete words before not after the sentence I need to delete.

How to view an attachment before sending?

How to search all files in email to look for a particular person?

How can I delete a document that was created. I've tried several tasks given with help but doesn't work. I thought I could just go to Word and open my documents and highlight it and it would delete it but obviously that's not the case.

HELP!!!!!

It's generally best to ask one question at a time. This makes it easier for
others to follow and find answers as well as getting the attention via the
subject of someone that can help answer your question.

Open Entourage Preferences under Entourage in the Menu bar. Under the
General tab, you can set the preference on how you want to delete. The "use
Microsoft Office keyboard shortcuts for editing text"

The general Mac command "undo" using short cut Command-Z, undoes more than
the last letter. Try testing this shortcut to see how it works. It works for
actions as well. Delete a message accidentally. Undo moves it back. It is
for the last action only.
How to view an attachment before sending?

That would depend on the attachment. Control click on attachment and select
Open.
How to search all files in email to look for a particular person?

Use the top Spotlight Search box. You can click on the + sign to further
limit your simply closes the window. You need to delete the doc in the
Finder. Command-Delete --> Move to Trash

Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts

Permanently delete files via AppleScript (Ever since switching to OS X from
Windows, I've missed the convenience of being able to permanently delete
files using Shift-Delete. In order to duplicate that functionality, I've
written a short AppleScript that will delete the files selected in Finder
instead of placing them in the trash.)

Hope this helps!

HELP!!!!!

I can answer the question on deleting words like in a regulat laptop:

Go to Google and look for a program called Double Command. Download it. Once it is downloaded open it up and you will ultimately see a window with a whole bunch of choices you have and which you can use to do certain operations on a Mac notebook. Double Command is basically written just for Mac to answer these strange and illogical lacks.

One of the boxes says something about forward delete for which you can assign a key on your keyboard. I chose the Enter key that is located to the right of the space bar. Make sure you click on the Assign button and close the program.

It's been a marvelous discovery.

Go to Google and look for a program called Double Command.

That's a new one for me. Thanks for sharing. I'll add it to the third party
products page and the New2Mac & Entourage page.

You can also do this with Keyboard Maestro, but it's not a free product. $36

There are FAQs for shortcuts on this link too.

Hi there,

The truth is that between the struggle to move from TB to Entourage and then finding all these niggly annoyances (like the deleting issue which needs key steps; the need to double click on a message to get to an attachment; having to go thru two steps to insert a name in the To field and not being able to control Send/Receive (as soon as I open Entourage, the messages get downloaded) and so on, I feel really defeated. I was really excited to move to Entourage (hence all the struggling) because I always liked Outlook. But it was not to be. It is very sad, but I will have to go back to TB.

You don't have to download all your messages as soon as you open Entourage.
Go to Tools>Schedules, double-click the Send and Receive Messages schedule,
select the When occurrence labeled "At Startup" and click Remove Occurrence.

Much of your frustration, I'm sure, came from expectations that Entourage
would be Outlook for Mac. It isn't. It is a good application in its own
right and it can do most of what you want it to do, if you can adjust to the
differences from Outlook and Windows.

Since TB is so clearly NOT Outlook for Mac, those expectations don't applty
to it. But If you're happier with TB, then use TB.

Hello Ed and thanks for your reply. You are right, TB ain't Outlook. Its only virtue is that it does not have the annoyances I ran into with Entourage.

(like the deleting issue which needs key steps;

What key steps? You can select messages and nuke them or send them to
Deleted Items folder.
the need to double click on a
message to get to an attachment;

That is not a function, but I generally know what is in the attachment I
send before adding it.

Quicklook for attachments was not added to Entourage 2008 because it was not
supported in Tiger. They did not want to add a feature that was specific
only for Leopard.
having to go thru two steps to insert a name
in the To field

Have no clue why this take you two steps. I just start typing in the to
field and Entourage uses the autofill list to populate choices.
and not being able to control Send/Receive (as soon as I open
Entourage, the messages get downloaded)

This is a schedule. You can alter that.
