Delivery and Read Receipts

Steve Davies

Sorry to ask another basic question, but I don't see anywhere in the options
inbox that allows me to request a delivery receipt for my outgoing emails.
Can anyone tell me if this feature is available in Entourage (it was in the
options tab on Outlook for the PC)?

Thanks in advance.

You can request a return receipt by adding in the appropriate header. See
this Entourage FAQ article for complete instructions:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/return_receipt.html>

However, be aware that many clients (including Entourage) ignore the header,
and other clients choose not to obey it. So you shouldn't expect to receive
a notification in all instances.

If you want Entourage to recognize these requests in incoming messages, go
to Tools > Rules, and create a new rule like this:
* Execute actions if any criteria are met
IF Specific Header Disposition-Notification-To Contains @
IF Specific Header Return-Receipt-To Contains @
THEN Reply

You can click the "Reply text" button and customize the notification text.
I only have such a rule set up to change the category of messages that
request receipts so that I have the option to send replies or not. You
might want to consider that option for your own privacy.

Or search MacUpdate.com for the Return Receipt 3.0 script; rather than
setting up the "reply text" rule set a rule to Run AppleScript... and then
point it to this script. The script creates a real-looking return receipt.
Note that the developer no longer is supporting this script and does not
respond to many emails about it.
