Design Checker Function Missing

J

Joy

With Publisher 2007, I am unable to locate the Design Checker function
that can find and correct double spaces that follow a period. This
valuable function was available with a previous Publisher edition. For
a newsletter that I design, each article I receive is typed by a
different person and they all continue to put double spaces after a
period (based on the method typewriter typists had to use). Is this is
function still in Publisher 2007 somewhere?

Thank you.

Edit > Replace
Find ". " (no quotes)
Replace with ". " (no quotes)

....ought to do it.

When I click on Design Checker, it does not show that the double
spaces need correcting nor does it perform the correction. I searched
throughout the options list and cannot find where it lists checking
for double spaces after a period anymore either. Thanks for any
suggestions.

Please see my reply. Any suggestions on your end?

Also, using the suggested Edit, Replace, etc. method did not provide a
solution. The response box reads: "Publisher could not find any
matching text."

Sorry...I'm no help really...I misread that you
were simply searching for the Design Checker.

Joy, Ed's suggestion works. This Design Checker function was discontinued with
2003. You could copy/paste your text into Word, do the find/replace and paste
special back into Publisher as formatted text.

Here's a description of what happened when I used Ed's suggestion for
Word 2007 (find and replace in this version it is located on the upper
far right side),
I inputted:
In Find, I typed a space, followed by a period, followed by a space
(When this didn't work, I typed a space, followed by a period, but no
space following the period)
In Replace, I typed a period with no space before or after. (When this
didn't work, I typed a period followed by a space)
The Word 2007 message reads: Word has completed its search of the
document and has made 0 replacements.
The is the test text I'm using: This is a test. To see. If the
double spaces. Can be found by. Find and Replace.
I even tried checking "Use Wildcards" under the find and replace tab
of MORE, but this didn't make the function work either.
Please, any other options .. I can't even imagine the amount of work
and time I would now need to spend going through each person's typed
article and having to find and replace double spaces that follow the
periods of each sentence. Oy Vay!

When I used this function, I typed the period with a space in the find and just
the period in the replace. It worked for me in an old document I had.
I don't know what else we can suggest.

The text you're searching for doesn't have a space before the period. It
has two spaces after. Why are you telling Publisher to look for a space
before the period? You want to find a period with two spaces after. So
in the Find box, enter a period, followed by two spaces.

Okey, Dokey. This clarification of the spacing in the Find and Replace
tool did the trick!
Thank you so much. I am quite relieved because, as I stated before,
having to manually do this would have been a nightmare on my end.
Another example of what my child is so fond of telling me ... "User
Error, mom!"

Thank you for your help. Also see my reply to Ed.
One great thing about this solution, is that it works in MS Word and
also in MS Publisher under the Edit > Find and Replace.
I'm sure you and Ed both knew that but it's like discovering gold for
me because I always had relied on the Design Checker to perform this
function.
I thought I was following Ed's original suggestion to a "T" but
obviously I was not seeing correctly how he had inputted the spaces.
Again, thank you so much!
