Design Template Path in Office 2000

Hi there,

I've got Office 2000 running in a Windows 2000 school environment. As the
students like to try and breach IT security, I've hidden the local C: drive
with group policy.

I was a little surprised to find that Powerpoint Design Templates cannot be
applied. The error states that the path (it's looking for C:) can't be
found, but group policy states that, while it hides the drive from explorer,
etc, it doesn't prevent programs accessing it. The fact that powerpoint will
run from the C: drive proves this, so is there some way I can resolve this
without un-hiding the local drive..? I can't seem to find anywhere in Office
2000 that will let me change the default path. I understand that the error
message can essentially be ignored until prompted to select a new location to
look in, but this will only confuse staff and students that have "no idea"
(to put it nicely).

Any help is much appreciated...
Cheers

You should be able to change the path in Word. Open Word and go to Tools >
Options > File Locations and select User Templates and click on Modify. It's
been a long time since I've looked at Word 2000, but that's how it works in more
recent versions.
