Designing for Different Screen Resolutions

Is there any way to alter/add to a publisher code so that an image is
stretched to fill the whole width of the screen? That big patch of white is
really annoying, and I've tried everything to get rid of it for higher screen
resolutions.

no.

a somewhat suitable workaround you can do is to go to page setup and set the
page width really wide, say 1500 pixels. Then go to Format, background and
apply a background color, that will replace the standard white background in
the web page and fill the browser window with color. You then create a text
box on the page and size it to the size you want the web page area to be and
set it's color to white. You then place all the page content in that white
area. The effect would be similar to http://www.barvin.com/ , but it will
cause the browser to include a scroll bar but most people probably wouldn't
notice or care.
