desktop publisher program

I'm not sure if this is the forum for my question. If not, perhaps someone
could direct me to a more appropriate one.
Which desktop publishing program would be best for book self-publishing? I
don't have a lot of money, so keep that in mind.
Thanks,
Cindy

Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 is supurb for book publishing. The best
thing you could do is contact that printing company that will be printing
your book, find out what format they want your book in, how they want it
laid out and post back with what you find out. It's possible that depending
on your situation, one product might be better suited than another.

Publisher 2003 is a good program, but a lousy book program compared to Serif
PagePlus.

Once Publisher 2003 gets to 84 pages with a few pictures the files are
unmanageable for the majority.

Check out all the PagePlus users here:

and ask any questions you like.

I don't remember the last time I read a good book that had pictures
actually. I know of a couple people that actually write up to 1000 page
books with Publisher. And it works flawlessly for them.

I remember reading the OEM manual for Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and MS-DOS
That had pictures occasionally.

:D
It must have been my age - I found it a gripping read (and therefore read it
cover-to-cover!)
The only thing I skipped was the 121 combinations of autoexec.bat files that
you can use with MemMaker. That was boring, because it was all .bat file
code (and this was before my coding days)

Show me one or tell me the name of one I can verify?

The only way they would create a 1,000 page book in Publisher would be with
around 10 to 15 separate files.

Nope, I won't give out their personal/private information. However, we had
customers that worked for our municipal/city and they created maintenance
manuals for the city vehicles. Maintenance of snow plows, street sweepers,
squad cars, etc. These manuals/books were designed and printed from
Microsoft Publisher 2002 and they experienced no problems what so ever.

These were single files, but they had created constant back ups.
