I'm about to go desperate,

"External table is not in the expected format" is the error I get running
this code ....

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9,
sWorkSheetName, sSaveFileTo, True

It used to work fine until today???!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I have not applied any new patches since upgrading to Windows XP SP2 on
august 11th ...

I compated and repaired, I decompiled I got all objects imprted into a new
mdb ...

Any pointers woukld be great

I have found that if I create the XLS first with the export function in
Acces or execel that it works fine ... very strange ... to me anyway.

Found it, sorry, it was a very naughty bug in the code that checks i a
workbook is open by opening it for binary access. This code creates the
file .... and it is name something.xls but invisible and ... then it cheked
for a worksheet in that workbook that now exists ... but is not a valif XLS
format .... very bad, that hurt me an had me occupied some hours .....
