different graphics for screen view & print

I'm creating a template (ppt 2000) with a color image footer, which is a
colored band with white & black type on top. I would like to have a
different graphic print for black & white versions (just black type with very
light colored/grey band). Is this possible?

It's possible.

If you set the "black and white" options for the visible color band to "not
show" (ie. not print)
Then place, an invisible to the screen, different color bar behind the
normal bar. (set this to print with the B&W options)

See

in short you have a bar (a) on top of bar (b)
set bar (a) not to print
set bar (b) to print
bar (b) is 'behind/under' bar (a)
