disable instant messenger

I like to leave Outlook 2002 open all day so I know when
I get new emails, but I've discovered that it
automatically signs me on to MSN Messenger-- so people
send me messages while I'm not actually at my computer.
MSN Messenger is also not my primary IM client, and I
have never opened Messenger software on my computer; is
there a way I can disable automatic sign on from Outlook?
Thanks!
