Is it possible to disable all kind of formatting in the preview pane and read views?

I just need plain text when dealing with e-mail.

Actually you *can* remove HTML from incoming emails. It involves running
a script that strips HTML from incoming messages:

The link points to a page that has another link to ScriptBuilder that's
non-functional.

I don't see it as quite the same though since it actually strips the
HTML instead of just displaying the e-mail at plain text (but it could
do the trick here quite nicely)

It's going to slow down the processing of your mail. Maybe Jolly can comment
on that. BBEdit's Mailsmith is a plain text only email client. AFAIK it's
the only one.

Try using a newsreader like the Entourage newsreader to access this group.
You¹ll find it much easier.
