Disable the Send-Message Global Hotkey (SHIFT+SHIFT)

Matias Nino

People in our Groove evaluation study are constantly accidentally typing the
shift key twice while writing and they can't stand the pop up constantly
interrupting their work. I truly hope our decision to roll-out Groove to the
entire enterprise is not thwarted by a stupid usability bug like this!

There MUST be a workaround. If any program can add a global hotkey to
windows, surely there is a way to disrupt this setting at least at the
windows level.

Microsoft please advise!

There is an unsupported reg key you can use to disable this feature (you
might not believe this, but some people actually like it!).

Create a "DisableHotkey" STRING value under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Groove\InstaGroove

and set it to the string "1" (i.e. the number one as a character).

Shut down and restart Groove and the hotkey should be disabled.

Donna,

Thank you very much for the hack. You may well have saved my few remaining
hairs from being pulled out my head.

Just one observation: When "everyone except *you* actually likes" a feature,
a registry hack is perfectly acceptable. However, wouldn't you agree when
only "some people actually like" a feature, that calls for an option in the
GUI? Maybe in a service pack?
