Disappearing Contacts and Recurring Reminders

R

Rich

Here's something strange to ponder. And annoying too...

I'm using Office 2004 on my Mac running OS 10.3.8. We have several
locations, so we coordinate our calendars and contacts by synching our
projects up via our .mac iDisk space. Two things have been happening to
me.

When I am disconnected from my iDisk, sometimes most of my contacts
disappear. This doesn't always happen, but every few days, suddenly
about 2/3 of my contacts are missing. They are easily retrieved by
reconnecting to my iDisk and allowing things to synch up again.
However, when they reappear on my desktop, all the categories have
disappeared. Any idea what may be happening here? Anyone else using
their iDisk for their .rge files? (This seems to be happening only with
one of our locations.)

Another strange thing is that I am getting reminders for calendar
events that occurred in the past... as much as half a year ago when we
first switched to Entourage. So far, the only solution is to reopen the
event and uncheck the reminder box, but what a pain. I like using the
Office Notifications, but if this continues, I will have to stop using
them alltogether. Ideas? (This is happening to several users in our
group.)

Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions...

Information

I use Share/Subscribe to share a network "server" based projects containing
calendar and contacts so my situation is similar to yours. I've heard that
iDisk is much more reliable than the way I do it though.

My finding is that regardless of how it is done, any shared addresses do not
share the categories from the location they came from. All other information
is shared, just not the category. I don't know why this is, but it seems to
logically make some sense that if a user shares an address with a category,
that category may not be applicable or even exist in the subscribed users
database (.rge file).

So while I understand your frustration, Rich, that might not be something
you'd want to change. There are several issues regarding this sharing in
Entourage 2004 that do still bug me though, it's on another topic so I won't
go into that. None have to do with categories in shared data however. Just
thought you'd like another viewpoint on this.

Good Luck,

Henry
