Disappearing IMAP Sent Folder

C

Chris McFarling

I'm using OS 10.2.8, Office 10.1.5 and an IMail mail server. I personally
use IMAP on my iBook with Entourage and I have not had any real problems,
going on a year.

However, there's one mail account that is giving Entourage fits. This is
also an IMAP account. The same account is used by two people, both using
Entourage on iMacs. Both people need acces to the same account so I set them
up with IMAP access. For about 6 or 8 months things worked well. However,
for the last few months, the Sent mailbox continuously disappears from their
folder list. The same behavior on both machines.

The scenrio is this:
Open Entourage and click the IMAP account inbox. This causes the
athentication dialog box to pop up. After logging in, new messages are
displayed in the inbox. The Sent mailbox is displayed in the flder list at
this point. Click on the Sent mailbox and it disappears. Click on the server
icon to see the list of both subscribed and unsubscribed folders in the
right pane. The Sent mailbox shows up as unsubscribed. Click the Sent
mailbox from this list and click the 'Subscribe' button. The Sent mailbox
now shows up again in the folder list in the left pane. Click on the Sent
box and it stays put now. You can view messages in the Sent box at this
point. Go back to the inbox and wait about a minute. Click on the Sent box
and it disappears again.

You have to keep subscribing to the Sent box to use it. Sometimes you must
subscribe to it more that once to get it to stay put.

As I mentioned, my personal IMAP account has worked just fine (as well as
other users). As a test I set up a the problematic IMAP account on my own
machine. Sure enough I get the same behavior, but only on this account. I
should also note that this account has many folders in it, 47 total
(including inbox,drafts, and sent).

I tried going to the Sent box and doing Cmd-Opt-L but that makes it
disappear as well. I thought it may be the server so I totaly deleted and
recreated the Sent mailbox on the server, but to no avail. I've done
multiple rebuilds of the Entourage database as well with no luck. Judging by
some other posts, I believe that this is an Entourage thing.

Oh, and I almost forgot, of the two machines that use this account
regularly, Entourage unexpectedly quits often when they send mail. I'm sure
its related to this whole Sent folder issue (they are set up to put all sent
messages in the Sent folder on the IMAP server)

Any Ideas?

Haven't seen any replies so I thought I'd give this thread a refresh.

Do any Microsoft developers follow this newsgroup? If so, help!

What leads you to believe this is an Entourage issue? It's pretty clear that
there's something wrong on the server. You'd have to ask a server expert
about it. Do you get one with "IMail"? Have you tried setting up the
accounts in other email clients (e.g. Mail.app) and seeing what happens
there?
