Discussion Group Article Numbering

John Scott

I have created a discussion group for my work and have
started to experience issues with it. Once I reached 59
articles the numbering changed from "000000059.htm"
to "000000001a.htm" and started counting up from there
until it reached "00000000001f.htm". From there it went
to 2a.htm - 2f.htm and then 3a.htm - 3f.htm and so on.
Once it reached 5f.htm it started over at 1a.htm and began
overwriting the old articles.

Does anyone know how set the article numbering to continue
numerically to 1000.htm. What might be causing this to re-
use the old numbers? Thanks for the help.

When you say it is reusing the old numbers I presume you
mean 0000001a is like a reuse of 0000001. I's not - it's
a numbering code called hexadecimal in which 19 = 19, 1a =
20, 1b=21. There is a microsoft knowledgebase article
about this. Without going into the theory too much, look
on the internet for information on converting hexadecimal
to decimal, then you will see how each posting has a
hexadecimal number one higher than the previous one.
