Thanks, Russ. The Microsoft Outlook version is 2002. Some of the contacts were imported from Microsoft Access and some were entered manually. It does appear that the contacts imported are the problematic ones, although the e-mail fields look just fine to me.

I suspect that if you look at the actual E-mail Address field, they are
corrupt. Here is an example of what most likely happened:
