Do not have letters on columns

I have an excel issue. None of my calculations are working. I noticed that
on my columns and row headers, they are both numbers. So A1 plus B1 forumula
does not work. It is the same if I start a new worksheet. I installed all
SP's and even unistalled and reinstalled office. Any ideas?
