Do Not Notify

I would prefer not to get a beep (or any other sound) when I get new
messages for this newsgroup (Don't get me wrong; I love the newsgroup, I
just don't need a beep every time there's a new message -- there are often
several a day).

So, I set up a rule under News for all newsgroups: For all messages, Do Not
Notify.

But it doesn't appear to work. Any suggestions?

Check the option in rule to Play Sound and select "no mail sound.

Oooooooh! I had thought that this particular option meant "make the sound
indicating that there is no new mail"; I did not realize that it meant "make
no sound at all".

Confusing, isn't it?

Yes! I hadn't even seen the option before I checked for a solution for you.
Personally, the new mail sound doesn't bother me.
