Does anyone use Outlook XP?

I figured Outlook would be the best email program that would be most similar
in views and general behavior to Entourage.

Instead, I find that the instructions and behavior seem weirdly complicated.

Am I alone, or do other people feel Outlook is a grizzly bear of a program.

I detest Eudora for the PC, which crashes a lot in addition to being clunky.
But I can¹t find anything better.

Thoughts?

(May not be able to respond for a day, but I will be grateful for anything.)

Outlook is the most similar to Entourage, but it's a lot more complicated
(and sophisticated) and has a User Interface much less intuitive than
Entourage's. It's the only way to get all the stuff you have in Entourage,
though - and then some. If all you want is a fairly simple email program
maybe with Address Book, just use Outlook Express, which is built into
Windows - no need to download or buy anything. Its interface is actually
somewhat similar to Entourage's Mail and Address Book. If you don't need
Calendar, Tasks, etc. etc. it should do you fine.

Thanks. I didn¹t know I had OE. Not on the PC for a few days. This should be
a big help, though. Thanks again!

Hi Bill,

I second Paul's suggestion: Outlook 2003 is what I use at work
(previously used Outlook XP) and XP is a pretty complicated beast to get
your hands on. With 2003, MS really gave Outlook (and with Entourage
2004 to a very great extent too) a fresh overhaul in making it more
intuitive to get around. The grouping of mail messages by time relative
to the current date you're on is helpful, especially when trying to
track mail message from 1.5 years back! However, if all you need is a
simple mail program that is pretty straightforward, OE, as Paul
suggested, is the way to go. But if you need advanced contact management
or calendaring abilities, Outlook 2003 is a good for bet for the PC but
Entourage 2004 on the Mac is the way to go!

Thanks, Eric.

I don't find OE on the system, but I guess I can grab it from MS someplace.

Hi Bill,

Outlook Express, I believe, is part of the default installation for
Windows XP (Home and Pro editions). If you go into the control panels
under Start>Settings>Control Panel, double-click Internet Options, then
click on the Programs Tab and the second entry from the top is to select
the default Email program: You should see Outlook Express.

Hope this helps.

No, you can't grab it from someplace. It's on the system. (Remember, they
had a multi-billion dollar lawsuit exactly about this? OE is part of IE on
Windows, and IE is built into the system. It may have to be "triggered" to
reveal itself, open IE if need be.) Just check the Start menu, All Programs
if need be. There are several outlookexpress newsgroups for Windows OE if
you should need one.
