dot mac and erage database

Hi,

A buddy of mine said he read an article that you could put an erage database
on Dot mac and basically share it over the net like an Exchange.

Is this possible?

I¹m looking to share the database across five computers in different
locations.

Thank you,

John

No, it's not possible.

While it may be theoretically possible to put it up there and use it on one
machine, it would be so slow and unstable as to be unusable, You could
certainly NOT let two machines access the same data as the database is not
designed for multiple users and has no record or transaction locking built
in. One machine could be altering data that is being moved by another
machine disaster in very short order!

Hi John!

What he probably read about was .Mac's IMAP capabilities. You can
connect your multiple machines using Entourage to the same IMAP account
and because changes are replicated from Entourage to .Mac, they will
also be replicated to the other Entourage clients. Therefore, create a
mail folder on one machine and it will soon appear on the rest of the
machines automatically.

Hope this helps! bill
