Download only recent emails

Running Entourage 2004. I saw a (2003) post from Paul Berkowitz
showing how Message Rules/Applescript could be used to NOT download
emails unless the message contained an email address. I have a good
use for a similar script. My wife uses her iBook occasionally. We
keep our email on the server for a month, but she only wants to
download the last few days. If Paul or anyone could offer a script to
do this I'd be grateful. Please note that she doesn't want to delete
anything from the server - we want everything saved to the home
computer.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know of any good way to control what messages are downloaded;
Entourage will always download all unread messages unless it is interrupted
(e.g. a crash). That said, your wife can accomplish virtually the same thing
if she simply checks the box marked "Allow online access" in the "Options"
tab of her POP Account. This will cause Entourage to add an entry near the
bottom of the folder list with the account name. Selecting that entry will
display the header information for all the messages on the server but
WITHOUT DOWNLOADING the entire message. Only the messages she selects and
reads will actually be downloaded, just as with an IMAP account.

Going one step further she can use the View menu to show the messages in
groups by date, or as I often like to do, grouped by subject, then sorted by
date, so the mostly recently active subjects are at the top, but all the
messages in the same thread are grouped together.

Thanks, Allen, this is an excellent solution. we'll try it out.
