Download only unread mail

How can I instruct MS-Outlook 2000 to download only unread mail from my
server? The reason is that it is repeatedly downloading all messages
(including those I've "left on the server").

Something is interfering with the UIDL cache Outlook builds to keep track of
what messages it has downloaded from the server. If this were happening to
me, the first thing I'd do is to create a new mail profile. Just how
depends on the mode in which you've installed Outlook 2000 (IMO or C/W).
