Downloaded Office fixes. Said no CD but installation looking for

Why does your iNstallation of downloaded fixes for Office look for a file on
the CD when I was asked prior to download if I had it? It took a route to
download the fixes and iI would think include the file that is on the CD it
desires so I can Install the darn things. Otherwise it's another jerk off of
my time. Bill Healey

It's intended to prevent piracy after the fact. If someone were to
manage
getting Office to work without installing from a CD, Microsoft means to
make it as difficult as possible for them to upgrade the software.
Mighty
pointless because a copied CD-R[W] of the Office CD would be all that's
necessary to fool the Office update.

Good speculation but that's not why. :)

Microsoft has taken strides to prevent the need for the installation
CDs in order to install the updates. That's why they've also been
adding a full-file patch in the available downloads. I also know
Microsoft does research our reports of the CD being requested even
though we're using the full-file patch and does their best to correct
these issues.
