Downloading All Messages

Hi I use an Exchange Server for my job here at Indiana University. My
problem is this. On my windows based computer and actually every
windows based computer I have ever set outlook up on, when I first
check it, it downloads every e-mail I have ever sent. I love that, it
is great and very useful. I have done this on many computers. The
first time I set up outlook on a new workstation and put my info in it
takes 10 min on the first check to download all of my old messages and
from then on it works fast. Now here is my problem. I have just
gotten a mac. I used entourage for a little bit but it was very
unstable. Everytime I would write an e-mail it would crash. So now I
use the Mail program that comes with Mac Os x. My issue is on both of
these programs it will only download new messages. So basically I
check my e-mail, on my mac, poof something is there. I read it, when I
go home and update my windows based pc by checking my e-mail i get that
same message but it indicates it has been read by not bolding it. I go
back to my Mac computer...Check it, That e-mail is gone. For me it is
very benefical to have all of my e-mail on my macbook, yet I have not
found a way to download all of the messages. Somebody Please help.

Exchange support by default in Entourage is set to synchronize your
computer to the server. Therefore everything should be downloaded and
you'll have a copy in two places (your Mac and the server).

Exchange support for Apple Mail is actually IMAP, which should also
synchronize your Mac to the server.

Your description about reading mail on one machine (the Mac) and then
seeing it download as read on the other machine (Windows) makes sense
for both Exchange and IMAP support. But I'm confused what you mean by
going back to your Mac and the email is gone. Didn't you already view it
there? Are you deleting it while using Outlook? If so, the email message
will be deleted from the server and thus be deleted from the Mac.

Exchange does also support POP if it's enabled. If you've set up one of
your machines with a POP connection instead of Exchange or IMAP then
that machine may be downloading and deleting from the server, which is
the default behavior for POP.

Unfortunately, I can't give you must assistance with Mail. I don't know
much about the application to give you good advice. If you'd like to try
Entourage again plenty of folks here will be able to give you a hand
with that. Be sure you update to the latest version of Office 2004 in
case that may fix your stability issues.

Hope this helps! bill
