Downloading And Installing Templates

I've found a few templates I can use, but before I go downloading them,
exactly where do I install/save the to? What directory and where?

Please help as I don't want to start making a mess of things........

The templates download and open in the appropriate program then you can do
save as and choose the directory of choice.

Probably a dumb question but what file type do you save the template as? For
example, for Word 2002, is it simply .doc?

In the Save As dialog box the list found under "Save As Type" will contain a
Template file type. For Word it's "Word Template *.dot".
