downloading from exchange server?

Is there anyway to download email from an exchange server running exchange
server 5.5 using entourage?

If the server is set up so that IMAP access is enabled, you should be able
to set up the Exchange mail account as an IMAP account in any version of
Entourage.

I need to talk with our IT department. What does IMAP do? Can the server be
setup so that it is an exchange server and also have it set up for IMAP
simultaneously?
